Probably a slight Branding/default look change. Canonical has been doing some heavy work with Dell and other big names, a more "popular" colour scheme may be in order. Whatever. The devs are working hard, and Ubuntu gets better every day.

He's probably only going to announce the release of Alpha3 on thursday.
That is not equal to signing Novell-style patent covenant with Microsoft. Canonical-Micrhoo! search deal is just about search. It does not have any exclusive patent licenses or royalties involved, therefore does not undermine Free Sofware. Unlike Novell deal with Microsoft.
I think they will just announce that some company ported its closed software to Ubuntu. Nothing special, I am not holding my breath.
