    FPS = UT2k4, it's a huge & multifaceted game, both solo & online.

    Neverwinter Nights - 1, is probably still the most popular RPG that has ever been made, &, it is installable as a native Linux game.

    There are more games, but those two have years of play in them each in their own way. imho.

    Quake wars is pretty big. Not quite sure what you mean by mainstream games. I've pretty much given up on commercial pc games as I'd rather pay to play on a PS3.

    Due to the fairly recent $200+ price drop on PS3s, I've just gone there too.

    It is now just so easy to play a great game, compared to the difficulties & limitations involved with both Linux & OS X.

    I'm loving it.

    I dunno, I've never really found any problems with playing games on linux and I do still play multiplayer games here (like quake wars, tremulous, sauerbraten and teeworlds) but I think for fps games especially, console is much more fun.

    Some games are easy to get running on Linux, some are hard, & plenty of others are impossible.

    For the cost of a medium to high end graphics card, a PS3 goes a long way towards solving those problems.

    Well, I only play native linux games but I see your point. You may as well buy a PS3 rather than fork out for a cool gaming computer which you will inevitably have to upgrade when the next big game comes out...
