battery discharging icon doesn't show up in the notification area of the gnome-panel

Hi guys, the title says it all. Instead of showing the battery charging or discharging icon, the adapter (fork) icon shows up all the time, no matter whether my laptop is running on battery or not. Any ideas how I can fix it?

Go to: System>Preferences>Power Management. Then click the General tab, and where it says Notification Area and click the 'Always display an icon". Then close the window.

thank you for your reply, but it didn't solve my problem. actually, this was working fine until I replaced my battery with a new one.

Can you post a screen shot of the menu bar to help me out?

Hmm...this is really weird, have you googled your problem to see if other people had the same problem?
