Cairo-Dock clock and dustbin theme couldn't be found

On launching Cairo-Dock (from either the "Cairo-Dock (no OpenGL)" or "GLX-Dock")
I get 2 error boxes shown :-
clock : the theme couldn't be found ...
dustbin

I read about trying the following, but no talk of what to do if this fails:

I too face the same problem. Just select the no 'x' in the prompt. It will continue.

You have to install the latest version (2.1.3)
availabe on Launchpad : :
https://launchpad.net/~cairo-dock-team/+archive/ppa

I am being very thick. I have downloaded the new version but now don't seem to have any new icons to choose from. On startup a message appears no plugins installed.

you have to follow the instructions, not to download the tarballs
it's all automatic then.

I did follow the instructions under "PPA Description". What did i do wrong.

maybe when you copied the command you didn't notice the 2nd one is very long and appears on the site on 2 lines
It's actually a single command line.

echo "deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/cairo-dock-team/ppa/ubuntu $(lsb_release -sc) main ## Cairo-Dock-PPA" | sudo tee -a /etc/apt/sources.list

it's only a guess though, you should check in the end of your /etc/apt/sources.list that everything looks correct.

Thanks getting somewhere, now got the dustbin but still clock problems. The clock details are showing in the config page but as before just the date is showing on the dock.

in the Clock config you can choose to display the date on the icon or not.
also you can choose between a numerical rendering or an analogical one (which has many themes).
