I am looking for the advantages Ubuntu has over windows.....
Please post!
1. no viruses
2. 9.10 runs way faster on the same hardware.
3. no drivers to install (in my case) on the same hardware
4. Linux for me is just more efficient as well. The command line is way more powerful than drag and drop.
5. no need to defrag the hard drive
6. compiz blows aero out of the water
7. support for a lot of older hardware. Windows 7 does not have this at all!! I have a $100 wireless card that is only a few years old, and Windows 7 has no idea it is there, but it works flawlessly in Ubuntu.
8. No product keys!!
9. free!!
I was a long time windows user, and i made the Linux switch a few years ago. I tried out Windows 7 recently, in a system I built to sell, and I was very disappointed. The GUI would crash on me when I was trying to move about 100 GB of various music files from one HDD to another. No warning, or error message, it simply would not work. I was also getting BSOD with windows 7. I found it was because I had to update my drivers, but in Ubuntu they just worked. I've since sold that computer as a gaming machine. I was more than happy to rid myself of that horrible OS.
I will never buy a Windows OS for one of my personal computers again. They are crippled, and designed to fail. I am much happier with any Linux OS
------------------------------------------------------
Here' my top 10 list.
1 There are currently no viruses that effect Linux (dialers too I think).
2 The only real spyware threat is cookies, but firefox and it's addons can eliminate that.
3 Linux is invisible on the internet by default, without having to mess around with a firewall.
4 No need for an antivirus program, unless you share files with windows users or run a server.
5 By default, linux desktop has no inbound(?) traffic (which is safer) (see #3)
6 All Administrator (root) privileges are locked, making it harder for malware and hackers to do damage or break in.
7 we are not bound to a restricted license agreement.
8 it's free to use, modify, and distribute.
9 90% of the software is also free in the same ways
10. No more slow downs because of excess fragmentation.
Of course there are advantages to windows as well. Such as a larger number of game titles available for windows, and there are some sites that don't support Linux yet, such as netflix. I liked the graphics drivers and sound card drivers better in windows too, but it's not too big of a difference. Other than that, I'm quite happy with Linux.
Hope this helps.

It is not better, windows is better but we are all here too stupid to understand that, so we use Ubuntu .
If ever a thread deserved recurring then this is it.
how unpopular has google become?
Keep your important files in HOSTS when ubuntu is installed with WUBI
How to install ANYTHING in Ubuntu!
'No PUB KEY' error? Try this!
easy to use, faster, stable, super flexible, little threat of malware, won't slow down significantly over time, almsot, no maintenance so you have more time to use your computer
Whoever came up with the phrase "There is no such thing as a stupid question" obviously never had the internet.
