    Circonflex

On windows I was always able to type for example: "^" and then "i" which would give me "î". On Ubuntu this has never worked. Is there a way to do this without having to use some tricks (correction, internet dictionary etc.)? I'm using the swiss keyboard layout eliminate dead keys (same problem with sun dead keys).

    Cheers

Go into Keyboard Preferences. In the Layouts tab, click on the Layout Options button, then tick a box under Compose Key Position. Right Alt is a common choice (Alt Gr).

Then you can enjoy the wonders of UTF-8. For example, press shift+altgr then type ^ then a, and you'll get â. Or shift+altgr then , then c will give ç.

Works well, thanks a lot. Have been fighting with this for too long. I chose right - ctr becaus I use right - alt for @ and such stuff.
