I have numerous little annoyances that I am hoping to fix. (Ordered by priority!)
1. MySQL doesn't start at login. When I first installed MySQL, it worked but now I have to manually start it which is annoying. Some people in the IRC suggested things like rc.local, but most said there's probably some underlying issue. Any ideas how to find that issue?
2. Same for CUPS
3. Same for virtualbox-ose
(As a temporary workaround I run sudo /etc/init.d/virtualbox-ose restart && sudo /etc/init.d/cups restart && sudo /etc/init.d/mysql restart before I want to use something)
4. GRUB also used to work, giving me the 10 second time out and what not. But now it doesn't, and I have to select the OS and press enter, there's no defaults. I read through the entire section on GRUB2 in the help but no matter what I did nothing seemed to affect the start up in the slightest.
5. My only reason for going back into windows is to use MS Office 2007 (including Access). So I set up virtualbox, but right now it is a hassle. I have to save the documents from my email, move them to the shared folder, boot up windows, start the shared drive, then I can open them in Office. Does anyone have tips/tricks for how they do it better?
6. My laptop runs really hot in ubuntu, so hot that it heats up the room almost 5 degrees over a day. It never ran this hot in windows, but it looks as though nothing much is running. In system monitor the CPU usage remains around 5% each core on idle, but yet the fans are spinning away like crazy.
7. I can't suspend nor hibernate on my laptop. It just gives me a bunch of errors and I have to REISUB it to fix it.
8. (Least important) When my laptop shuts off, random wavy lines appear all of the screen. It doesn't look healthy.
SYSTEM INFO is attached as an archive file. Let me know if you need more info.
Thank you so much for helping me out! When I started out with Ubuntu I had a list of about 30 things I wanted to change, and now I'm down to just these 8. If you have any ideas on how to solve these things then you would be making my Ubuntu experience even better than it already is. Thanks.
