    installation/live cd Freeze

    Hi

    I'm unsucessfully trying to load up Ubuntu 9.10

    Also live cd's: (Puredyne & NST).

    I have two other live cds (Dyne;bolic, 64studio) that work fine on my (dell inspiron 1150 (p4 2.8/ 1gb.)) laptop.

    I have checked the cds on my other computer and they are fine.

    I have re-seated the dimms and changed around all the bios settings.

    I've turned acpi off in the Ubuntu menu as well as a bunch of the other codes. (I installed windows xp recently; the only way it would install was f5 'standard pc'. I checked the error log which showed the freeze up when loading the cpu stuff.)

    Two other Linux live cd's (puredyne,NST) freeze up at boot line:

    [ Freeing initrd memory: [xxxx]k freed

    I'm thinking this has to do with acpi because XP encountered this problem. I may have a bad motherboard. I HAVE re-flashed the bios.

    ANY HALPSS??

    Re: installation/live cd Freeze

    I installed an older version of Ubuntu before, no problem.

    Re: installation/live cd Freeze

    tried: different combinations of

    acpi=off
    noapic
    nolapic
    vga=771
    reserve=iobase,extent[,...]
    aic7xxx.aic7xxx=noprobe

    starting to worry that i'll wear out the power jack after pulling out the battery so many times.
