    Question Idea Netsetter USB internet

I have ubuntu Jaunty. Idea netsetter is an internet datacard service. when i plug in the usb (net setter - modem) the configuration automatically pops up. i select India->Idea. then a new connection idea will be available as mobile broadband connection. i connect it and connection is established. but i can access no sites.

it works perfectly in mandriva 2009. but i like ubuntu. i have gone through a lot of sites specifying steps to manually setup a connection but am not able to understand them. am a newbei to linux.

So can any one using jaunty tell me how to get idea netsetter work.

I haven't used idea netsetter service before but if it gets connected then you should be able to access websites.
Do a little test. open terminal (applications->accessories->terminal) and run this command
    Code:
    ping google.com
    what response do you get?

and also post the output of this command.
    Code:
    cat /etc/resolv.conf

can you ping a numerical address IE

    137.222.253.92

also if you think you are connected can you post the results of this Code from the terminal This will give the Numrical output of your route ,rather than the name

    Code:

    /sbin/route -n

Good news.. this means that you are able to ping the IP addresses i.e. you are connected to the Internet but aren't able to resolve the website names.

You will have to add some Open DNS servers to your /etc/resolv.conf file.
try adding these 2 ips in that file
    Code:
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
So your file should look something like this
    Code:
    # Generated by NetworkManager
    nameserver 208.67.222.222
    nameserver 208.67.220.220
    nameserver 10.4.42.15
then restart your network and see if you are able to open websites now.
    Code:
    sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart
