Malicious app found on Android marketplace

    Yikes

    /. Discussion

The application, developed by Droid09, poses as a shell for mobile banking applications that phishes for personal data about the user's bank details and the users themselves, presumably for identity theft.

    lol?

Using an application to access your bank account is always folly

Not if it's approved by the bank itself. I use my bank's app on the iPhone. It's quite good.

I would only download my bank's app for my phone if I were to see advertisements for it *in* the bank itself or on official bank correspondence, which of course I am sure you did as well.

In regards to what happened as outlined in the OP, I'll say this much: PT Barnum was right.

The sudden rise in malware being developed for Linux-based operating systems, which are advertised (by the companies that produce them or by the users themselves) as being malware-free, is a sign that Linux-based operating systems are finally becoming mainstream.

    Wait... what?

Hey guys I wrote this program that's just simply awesome. It gives you an at-a-glance overview of all your yearly earnings, investments, mutual funds, bank accounts, and medical records. All *you* have to do is provide your unique, 9-digit user ID (SSN) and watch the magic happen!

Sure, sign me up! While I'm at, I think I'll download everything which claims to be "fun" and "cool"! Then I'll go to funkysoftwareforbanking.ru and download some more bank applications! Yay!
