    desktop access from safe mode? (user access mess up)

    Hi,

    I'm created what I think to be a massive balls up and I was hoping you can help me out.

    Over the past few days I have been making a few changes to the settings of ubunto following various guides my first problem was yesterday attempting to stop the keyring password request screen popping up each time I turned the machine on.

    The first guide suggested that I add this to my gdm login file:

    @include common-pamkeyring

    Since then I have found an easier way of solving the problem, however I did not remove this command from my gdm.

    Anyway, I tried to get into my root user today by changing the password and the login in options (where I can select "other") and now I cannot log into either my main account or root account due to the "authentication system - general failure" error.

    I have tried sniffing around in safe mode but as there is no desktop I don't have a clue how to solve this problem.

    Can anyone guide me on how to sort this out via safe mode? I'd hate to have to reinstall everything

    Kind regards,

    Cue

    Sorry if my first post was unclear, I did know the passwords but ubunto refused to deal with them.

    Thanks for the link though.
