9.10 – No network connection on laptop

    Hi,

Here’s a brand new ASUS K50IJ laptop, onto I’ve just installed Ubuntu 9.10. The only but serious problem is that network manager, though shows up, cannot connect to Auto eth. It also shows a protected wireless somewhere around, but as I don’t know the password I cannot know wheather it can use that or not.

I found some other threads about similar issues, but they were not describing exactly the same symptoms, plus I don’t know how to verify if it is the same issue – anyway, I don’t want to mess up configuration.

Could someone please help me witht his? Please ask for any needed command output, hardware information etc.

    Thanks in advance

clearly the wireless doesn't work either, but first I'd like to at least get ethernet working, please let me know if you'd find this info helpful...

a ton of thanks to anyone who takes the time to read this, feeling like there are a lot of people out there with this problem, but haven't found any of them solved yet.

    thanks!
