Video Issues with ATI Radeon Mobility X1400 on Ubuntu 9.10

Hello, I have this issue since 9.04 : When i watch video with any proper software i get theses broken lines that seem to be related to the refresh rate. I know that there are no propriatary drivers for the ATI Radeon Mobility X1400. I'm using the open source Radeon driver right now. Furthermore, compiz animations are everything but smooth. It destroy the charm of the OS...

Any clue on how to solve this issue? Cheers!

So i did some research and it seems that my video issues are called in fact "Tearing".

I've tried to enable the Sync to VBlank in compiz and... no dice, still tearing.

Is there a way to tweak the xorg.conf to fix the problem? Is there a better driver to use? Could it be some interference between drivers? I'm completely lost here!!!
