Problems connecting Kodak camera to Ubuntu

I am new to Ubuntu, so forgive me if this is dumb or I don't give enough information. I am running Ubuntu 9.10. I cannot connect my camera to my computer. My camera is:

    Kodak EasyShare V550.

I tried to download the software from the installation cd and I got the message:

    Archive: /media/cdrom0/setup.exe
    [/media/cdrom0/setup.exe]
End-of-central-directory signature not found. Either this file is not
a zipfile, or it constitutes one disk of a multi-part archive. In the
latter case the central directory and zipfile comment will be found on
the last disk(s) of this archive.
note: /media/cdrom0/setup.exe may be a plain executable, not an archive
zipinfo: cannot find zipfile directory in one of /media/cdrom0/setup.exe or
/media/cdrom0/setup.exe.zip, and cannot find /media/cdrom0/setup.exe.ZIP, period.

Could someone let me know how to fix the problem or if you need more info.

    Thanks!

You should not need any software from the CD which came with the camera. If you attach the camera to the USB cable, then turn the camera on, it should appear on your desktop as if it were a hard drive. You might also have a window pop up suggesting you use F-Spot to gather pictures from the camera.

The CD contains Windows software, which is useless in Ubuntu.

Thanks gordintoronto, I tried that and it did recognize the camera, but when f-spot opened i got the message:

Unable to mount KODAK EasyShare V550 Zoom Digital Camera

Error initializing camera: -60: Could not lock the device

are some of my settings wrong?

If the camera appears as if it were a hard drive, you can double-click it, and copy and paste to get the pictures onto your computer.

I have no insight into the error message, other than to suggest trying Google.
