taskbar focus problems

I'm having an annoying problem with my taskbar.

Sometimes clicking on an application in the taskbar doesn't do anything. I have to move my mouse away from the taskbar, and then back again. Then the app in the taskbar becomes highlighted and I can click on it.

It is driving me crazy. I did used to think the taskbar had hung, and then I found the trick.

I guess the problem could also be described as: after switching to one application, no others can be selected until you move your mouse away from the task bar.

I have the same problem too. The right click is working, but not the left click. So usually I do right click (to get the focus), left click (to cancel), then left click again (to open the application window).

Any solution?

I have the same problem and it is ******* killing me.

It does not happen when i replace metacity with xfwm4 so im gonna file a bug against metacity now.

I'm experiencing the exact same issue (and wow is it annoying). The mouse trick works for me too (moving it away and then back to the taskbar to re-click the program) but is obviously not a long-term solution.

A related issue is sometimes I click on the title bar of an opened application (e.g. to reposition it or maximize it) and it seems my mouse click attached itself to the previously selected window. So when I drag my mouse the other window starts to move (not the one I clicked on)!

I have fully updated ubuntu karmic system.

gnome 2.28.1
metacity 2.28.0

Any ideas on a temporary fix/workaround for this issue??

I am having this exact issue (annoying like hell!). Using fully updated karmic.

BTW -- maybe you could add a link to this thread to the metacity bug. I am sure number of Ubuntu members wont bother getting gnome account just for that... myself included.
