All you need to install for E17 to work is the E17 package. I assume the other E17 packages in this how-to are extras. I do not know of any dependency problems with the enlightenment repo.

    @mhbell

You could probably get the source and compile it for your CPU. I have no idea how to do that though.

By the way this isn't working for me at all. I went upto step 7 but am not able to install that huge list of packages - I get messages about broken dependencies.

Re: Installing enlightenment 17 on Ubuntu karmic

Today, I built a Dec 2 snapshot of E17 from source and it appears to be running ok (I haven't done much with it).

    Here is a screenshot:

I downloaded the source from here:

    http://download.enlightenment.org/snapshots/LATEST/

and built them in the order listed here:

    http://trac.enlightenment.org/e/wiki

    starting with the core elements.

For those wanting to live on "the edge" a bit, give it a try! The screenshot shows E17 running in an Xnest window on my Ubuntu 9.10 64-bit system.

    Peace...

I'm an amd 64 user and I didn't have any kind of problem using this howto. Everything worked perfectly and now I have a great E17 + Ubuntu Karmic desktop.

Re: Installing enlightenment 17 on Ubuntu karmic

Has anyone got Compiz to work with this setup? Or some other way to make it dynamic and generally awesome? (scale/cube/etc.) Im trying to make my Ubuntu Lucid run E17 and be awesome and snazzy like OpenGEU.

EDIT: Just found something called Ecomorph? I think I have it installed already, I just dont know how to use/configure it...

Re: Installing enlightenment 17 on Ubuntu karmic

Could someone give me a little help with this.

Run as described but keep getting dependency problems please see output below.

is it just a case of finding the dependenies and installing them?

    Reading package lists... Done
    Building dependency tree
    Reading state information... Done
libxine1-ffmpeg is already the newest version.
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies.
e17: Depends: libecore-evas-svn-03 (>= 0.9.9.061) but it is not going to be installed
Depends: libecore-imf-svn-03 (>= 0.9.9.061) but it is not going to be installed
Depends: libecore-input-svn-03 (>= 0.9.9.061) but it is not going to be installed
Depends: libecore-x-svn-03 (>= 0.9.9.061) but it is not going to be installed
Depends: libedbus-svn-03 (>= 0.5.0.061) but it is not going to be installed
Depends: libedje-svn-03 (>= 0.9.92.061) but it is not going to be installed
Depends: libeet1 (>= 1.0.0) but it is not going to be installed
Depends: libevas-svn-03 (>= 0.9.9.061) but it is not going to be installed
    Depends: libevas-svn-03-engine-software-x11
Depends: libedje-bin but it is not going to be installed
