    Shutdown delayed with "Stopping MTA"

When I'm shutting down my computer, the shutdown process gets stuck for anywhere between 30 seconds to 5 full minutes with "Stopping MTA".
    Too much for my taste

I understand that MTA stands for Mail Transfer Agent - I've noticed that I have the exim4 package installed - Is it safe to remove? If I remove it will it prevent that MTA from starting so that it won't get stuck with stopping?

    Any other suggested solutions?
