    ALSA v OSS4

Like many other people it would seem, I'm having problems getting any sound at all from my PC after having upgraded from 9.04 to 9.10, and then after having done a fresh install of 9.10.

I've gone through all of the HowTos with regard to sound issues, but still I get no sound.

So, would it be worthwhile to ditch ALSA altogether and go for OSS4 instead?

What are the key differences between ALSA and OSS4?
    Laptop1: Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo Pi 2515, 2Gb RAM, 160Gb HDD (2 x NTFS parts), Window$ Vista Home Premium
    USB HDD (usually connected to Laptop1): 80Gb total, 2Gb Linux-swap, 20Gb Linux-root (Ubuntu 10.10), 3.6Gb Linux-home, 50Gb NTFS

    Re: ALSA v OSS4

I thought I would go with OSS4 for the hell of it. It has been working pretty damn well. I think it actually sounds quite a bit better. The most noticeable difference is that my speakers don't pop when audio is initialised after moving to OSS4.
I've only had problems with emulating 5.1 sound for stereo files.
