    Lightbulb Ubuntu 9.10 - kernel 2.6.32 - open-source radeon drivers - fan constantly running

    Hi,

I'm using Ubuntu 9.10 with kernel 2.6.32 and the radeon open-source driver for ATI graphics on a Dell Studio 1535. Finally 3D effects and video playback work smooth, but the fan ist constantly running and noisy. I looked for solutions, but couldn't find any.
    Does anyone know a solution?
    Thanks in advance.

I am having that problem, but just suddenly the fan starts turning loudly and then stops.

The problem began between kernel 2.6.31.5 2.6.31.6

What specific graphics chipset are you using? Mine doesn't have hardware 3D with the radeon driver, so 3D apps will max out one of the CPUs and get the fan going.

i'm using the ati radeon hd 3450.
since the fan problem was so annoying, i had to switch back to 2.6.31 and fglrx.
