Help - error message during start up!

I have been investigating ubuntu (my first Linux OS) for about two weeks and am enjoying the experience. A message has cropped up on the black screen between the Grub menu and the ubuntu logo splash which I just don't understand and I would greatly appreciate hearing from you experts. The message, which runs across the top of the screen says -

vga=771 is deprecated. Use set gfxpayload=800x600 before Linux command instead

This is telling me to do something (I think) but I have no idea what! Can anyone please help on this?

You came empty handed, that is how you shall leave. Whatever you claim as yours today, belonged to someone else yesterday, will be someone else's tomorrow.

    Did you use startupmanager?

To Phil and ukripper who kindly answered my post I give both my most sincere apologies for not having followed up my original enquiry and their initial replies. I was called away urgently to deal with a crisis (not computer related) and this is the first opportunity I have had to come back to it.

Being very much a newcomer, I could not extract what I wanted from the link offered by ukripper but Phil is, indeed, on the right lines. Earlier yesterday, I used the Start up Manager to reset the size of the resolution on the Grub Menu to 800x600 simply for aesthetic reasons!

The error message is evidently related to this and I wonder what your advice is?

Can you boot into recovery mode - second option in Grub menu?

The system still works, right? That's not an error message, just a warning that some day the setting you/Ubuntu used will not be available anymore.

    Don't worry about it.
I try to treat the cause, not the symptom. I avoid the terminal in instructions, unless it's easier or necessary. My instructions will work within the Ubuntu system, instead of breaking or subverting it. Those are the three guarantees to the helpee.

as 3rdalbum mentioned above, is it a warning only where you can boot ok?
Or it is an error where you can't go past the black screen and stops there?

OK folks -Many thanks. Everything boots up OK and no problems otherwise. It's obviously just an information message, as you say! Thanks again to all.
