    Hi xl0,

    Welcome to Ubuntu forums!

Yes it is possible. A non-Wacom tablet can use xinput's CTM method. See: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1656089

Re: HOWTO INSTALL WIZARDPEN DRIVER FOR iball TABLET

    Hi Favux
I have installed the wizardpen driver from Doctor MO PPA for my UBUNTU LUCID. The tablet mouse as well as the stylus gets stuck to the left top corner. What am i supposed to do. It seems I am back to square one...
    My /usr/lib/X11/xorg.conf.d/70-wizardpen.conf is as follows

    Code:
    Section "InputClass"
       Identifier "wizardpen"
       MatchIsTablet "on"
       MatchDevicePath "/dev/input/by-id/usb-UC-LOGIC_Tablet_WP5540U-event-mouse"
       MatchVendor "UC-LOGIC|KYE Systems|Ace Cad|WALTOP|Waltop"
       Driver "wizardpen"
    EndSection
    Section "InputClass"
       Identifier "wizardpen ignore mouse dev"
       MatchIsTablet "on"
       MatchDevicePath "/dev/input/by-id/usb-UC-LOGIC_Tablet_WP5540U-event-mouse"
       MatchVendor "UC-LOGIC|KYE Systems|Ace Cad|WALTOP|Waltop"
       Driver ""
    EndSection
My grep -i name /proc/bus/input/devices is
    Code:
    N: Name="Power Button"
    N: Name="Power Button"
    N: Name="Macintosh mouse button emulation"
    N: Name="AT Translated Set 2 keyboard"
    N: Name="USB Optical Mouse"
    N: Name="UC-LOGIC Tablet WP5540U"
    My Xinput is
    Code:
⎡ Virtual core pointer id=2	[master pointer (3)]
⎜ ↳ Virtual core XTEST pointer id=4	[slave pointer (2)]

Re: HOWTO INSTALL WIZARDPEN DRIVER FOR iball TABLET

    Hi drpjkurian,

Everything looks OK so far. Both the .conf and xinput list. Although we might have room to play with the .conf match lines.

Alright, so stuck in upper left corner (0,0) implies that X input isn't receiving any coordinate values. Since the WizardPen X driver in DoctorMO's PPA has been working let's assume it is something else for now.

Do you know when this happened? It seems to me there was a kernel update for Lucid in the last week. Also an Intel video update among other stuff I think.

So if you can, try booting into the previous kernel and see if that fixes things.

Let's try a quick check to see if we can determine what X driver has the tablet. Run in a terminal:
    Code:
    xinput list-props "UC-LOGIC Tablet WP5540U"
and post the output. If it is evdev that's the problem.

Then let's look at your Xorg.0.log in /var/log and see if that tells us anything. If list-props doesn't show us the driver Xorg.0.log will. You might want to compress and attach it.

Is it possible the stylus battery died?

Re: HOWTO INSTALL WIZARDPEN DRIVER FOR iball TABLET

    Hi Favux
I did a fresh installation in my wife's machine. I messed up the X11 file. now my machine boots to a black screen. I've decided to reinstall Ubuntu Lucid. Will bother you if wizardpen fails again.
Thank you very much for your prompt reply.

Re: HOWTO INSTALL WIZARDPEN DRIVER FOR iball TABLET

    Hi Favux.

I reinstalled Lucid. I am having the same old problem. My new /usr/lib/X11/xorg.conf.d/70-wizardpen.conf is as follows
    Code:
    Section "InputClass"
       Identifier "wizardpen"
       MatchIsTablet "on"

       MatchIsTablet "on"
       MatchDevicePath "/dev/input/mouse*"
       MatchVendor "UC-LOGIC|KYE Systems|Ace Cad"
       Driver ""
    EndSection

My grep -i name /proc/bus/input/devices is

    Code:
    rose@rose-desktop:~$ grep -i name /proc/bus/input/devices is
    /proc/bus/input/devices:N: Name="Power Button"

    /proc/bus/input/devices:N: Name="USB Optical Mouse"
    /proc/bus/input/devices:N: Name="UC-LOGIC Tablet WP5540U"
    My xinput list
    Code:
    rose@rose-desktop:~$ xinput list
⎡ Virtual core pointer id=2	[master pointer (3)]

Re: HOWTO INSTALL WIZARDPEN DRIVER FOR iball TABLET

Alright. Assuming you've installed the PPA and that went OK then it appears to be a match problem since it is on the evdev X driver. You should actually be able to get it working on that in Oneiric I think, but maybe not with the evdev version in Lucid.

So let's try something quick. Try changing the wizardpen.conf to:
    Code:
    Section "InputClass"
       Identifier "wizardpen"
       MatchIsTablet "on"
    # MatchVendor "UC-LOGIC|KYE Systems|Ace Cad"
       MatchProduct "WP5540U"
       MatchDevicePath "/dev/input/event*"
       Driver "wizardpen"
    EndSection

    Section "InputClass"
       Identifier "wizardpen ignore mouse dev"
       MatchIsTablet "on"
    # MatchVendor "UC-LOGIC|KYE Systems|Ace Cad"
       MatchProduct "WP5540U"
       MatchDevicePath "/dev/input/mouse*"
       Driver ""
    EndSection
    Reboot and repeat the list-props.

Re: HOWTO INSTALL WIZARDPEN DRIVER FOR iball TABLET

Good, so the stylus is working correctly again?

You have a tablet mouse also? As far as I know that isn't supported by the WizardPen driver, and least we haven't gotten it working before that I remember. But yours was working?

Right now the tablet mouse snippet is set up to keep the mouse off any driver. That's what DoctorMO has used. We could try placing it on the evdev driver. But that would probably break X unless the mouse is exported from the kernel as a separate device from the stylus. If you know how to fix the wizardpen.conf from the Recovery Mode command line we could give it a shot. I'm thinking if it was working it must have been evdev that picked it up.

    Hi Favux

The tablet mouse was not working earlier. I think it is better to be satisfied without tablet mouse. Thanking you once again for solving my stylus problem
