Hi all. New to the forum/community/ubuntu. I've recently decided to do a clean-install of Ubuntu 9.10 onto my laptop, rather than forking out unnecessary amounts of cash on Windows 7. I tried Ubuntu once before on a dell laptop, a couple of years ago, but removed it for my inability to get wireless working. I've spent an incredible amount of time trying to find a way to get things working, but I've seen no results, where other people have.
running the lspci -v command i get:
03:00.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8101E/RTL8102E PCI Express Fast Ethernet controller (rev 02)
Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company Device 3602
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 31
I/O ports at 6000 [size=256]
Memory at d1410000 (64-bit, prefetchable) [size=4K]
Memory at d1400000 (64-bit, prefetchable) [size=64K]
Expansion ROM at d1420000 [disabled] [size=64K]
Capabilities: <access denied>
Kernel driver in use: r8169
Kernel modules: r8169
I've also tried going to System -> Administration -> Hardware Drivers. I have the option of activating 'Broadcom STA wireless driver'. However, when I click activate, then type my password to authorize, it still remains inactive, even after restarting.
Currently, I'm using a wired connection. Can anyone offer any type of solution? My Vista recovery CDs decided they weren't going to work... so I'm left with only Ubuntu as an OS (plus, I never want to go back to Vista)
I'd really like to get wireless working before I have to go to school tomorrow... considering how I have a ton of online assignments.
Any help is appreciated. Many thanks!
