    Getting video properties quickly

I frequently check video properties, mostly the duration of a movie. Each time I have to right-click on a video file in nautilus, click properties, wait a second until a window pops up, click Audio/Video tab... This is boring! I wonder if I can access to this information more quickly, like just left-clicking on a file and watching this information in status bar? This would be perfect.

Any ideas and help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Yes, would be nice if video files would present us nice information in the left panel when we select them or when we hover over them with the mouse pointer.

    Re: Getting video properties quickly

I just tried it with a 6G HD mpeg video with a Dolby Digital audio track... It's as close to instantaneous as I could ask.

I can't get my finger off the mouse button following the right-clicked Properties... menu selection before the properties window has mapped. I'd estimate a 150-200ms delay.

This is not a high-end system although it's not a pig, either.

The concept of displaying media properties in a popup is a nice one, but nothing new.

Take a look at the KDE file browser, dolphin.

Yes, you can run kde apps under gnome and vice versa.

I'm always amazed by how many Ubuntu users don't even bother to look at the other interface types available to them... Some (eg, KDE) are a lot more eye-candy rich than Gnome.

    Re: Getting video properties quickly

Giblet5, in dolphin I didn't find movie duration at all, neither in preview nor in properties.
