    Clicking File Manager opens Rhythmbox

When I try to pull down Places and select

    Home folder

    Desktop

    Documents

    Music

    Videos

any of the above fail to bring up a file manager window. Clicking any of these does start Rhythmbox. The player icon appears in my panel and the Rhythmbox appears on-screen.

Try opening Nautilus through terminal. Right click a folder and try "Open with other application" and choose "File Browser". What happens then?

Aft-F2 & Nautilus brings up a file manager window. Right clicking a folder allows selection of the various operations.

How do I make the OS go back to normal?

I don't know if you sorted the issues with your file manager, as it was a long time ago but here is a solution.
