Someone bought me this really nice looking mp3 player made by Coby. It mounts and I can look at what's on it like a thumb drive, but there are a couple of problems. When I try to drag and drop music to it or leave the folder and come back, Nautilus hangs. tried copying files from the command line, but it'll often hang.
Checked all the settings in fstab and mtab and tried a billion combinations of settings, but have yet to find the magic bullet to make this thing behave. It's a vfat drive. and I've set my fstab to rw and to sync, but no dice. Anyone know how to deal with a stubborn drive like this that doesn't involve a destroying a garbage disposal? I'm really loathe to drag out a spare computer I have and my old XP disc and made a windows computer just to run this thing - it comes with some kind of software suite that wine doesn't like to install.
copy of my mtab:

and my fstab, which shows some commented out stuff that I had tried:
## /etc/fstab: static file system information.
