    Re: Wacom Bamboo Pen and Touch Series Development

    Hi mmiicc,

    OK, good. So the "make white space not matter" change in 0.8.5-1 allows us to follow the format in xsetwacom:
    Code:
    "Device name"     Device type
    Where the Device name is what the kernel is returning. Now does that work with rotate commands I wonder? And were we fooled by the broken rotation that wasn't fixed until 0.8.5-8? [Actually that's been working since Jaunty and is ridiculously cumbersome, since you have to rename everything. Unless wacomcpl now handles it without renaming?]

    Which wacom.fdi are you using?

    For Gimp you'll need to reconfigure your extended input devices again because the names have changed.

    Edit: Good! So what's working now? Stylus and eraser of course. Touch is working too? Is it better than before? How about the pad? Does wacomcpl show your devices in the list? What is it calling them? And again which .fdi?

    Edit2: Did the name change after replugging wreck the xsetwacom command?

That'll also need to be compressed. That may tell us if another driver is grabbing touch and that's why you are not seeing it.
    Hi Favux,
    I have attached the docs you asked for. Thanks once again.
    I have used the working.fdi and copied it over to the correct directory. Also, I renamed it to both: 10-linuxwacom.fdi AND 10-wacom.fdi as I am not sure which is the one to be using on Karmic and 5-10. So, it is the same file (new-working) as both.

    $ xsetwacom set touch Touch on
    X Error: 2 BadValue (integer parameter out of range for operation)
    Error (22): WacomConfigSetRawParam: failed
    Set: Failed to set touch value for 'Touch'

    $ xsetwacom set touch bottomx 740
    X Error: 2 BadValue (integer parameter out of range for operation)
    Error (22): WacomConfigSetRawParam: failed
    Set: Failed to set touch value for 'BottomX'

    Hi nossifer,

    OK, now we're getting somewhere. The lshal looks much more reasonable with the new-working .fdi.

    The .fdi name you want in Karmic is 10-linuxwacom.fdi not 10-wacom.fdi. So remove the 10-wacom.fdi because we only want one wacom.fdi to run.

    Let's see if that helps. So what's working? Stylus, eraser, and pad (tablet buttons)? The wacomcpl .png was helpful!

    The lshal looks OK now but the Xorg.0.log seems to show the Synaptic Touchpad driver is grabbing the touch screen/pad part of your tablet. There's an easy fix for that if need be. Is touch kind of working? Anyway let's see what removing the extra .fdi does before we go on.

    I have done enough tech support to just say "send me a screenshot"

    I removed the extra .fdi and Touch is, as it was, completely unresponsive. I am not seeing any differences, and it is not recognized by wacomcpl. Earlier versions (5-9) had the touch mainly 'unusable', and gestures were completely out, but this one just doesnt recognize my fingers at all. Actually, I think one of the patches you directed me to previously had the touch working pretty well, but no gestures.

    If it helps, I can reinstall an older version and send the log files if it helps with diagnosis.

    While I don't use gimp often, I decided to configure it to test the eraser and sensitivity. A quick tutorial later, and I think all is working as expected. That is good news there.

    Re: Wacom Bamboo Pen and Touch Series Development

    Hi nossifer,

    OK, so the stylus and eraser are good. How about the 4 tablet buttons?

    We may need to construct a new .fdi and see if that gets it to work. But first let's see if it is the Syaptic driver causing the problem. This is Ayuthia's fix, for n-trig digitizers that were having this problem. We alter the Synaptic .fdi so it isn't so grabby. You nest a second set of match lines for the Synaptic .fdi. It's called "11-x11-synaptics.fdi" and it's located at "/usr/share/hal/fdi/policy/20thirdparty/". Add:
    Code:
        <match key="info.product" contains="Synaptics">

        </match>
    So it looks like:
    Code:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>
    <deviceinfo version="0.2">
      <device>
        <match key="info.capabilities" contains="input.touchpad">
        <match key="info.product" contains="Synaptics">

    ......

        </match>
        </match>
      </device>
    </deviceinfo>
    I'd use:
    Code:
    gksudo gedit /usr/share/hal/fdi/policy/20thirdparty/11-x11-synaptics.fdi
    to edit, and then reboot. If we're lucky that will fix touch for you.

    Hi shazeal,

    Welcome to Ubuntu forums!

    Great!

    Do you mean with linuxwacom 0.8.5-10? Or with the 2.6.33-rc8 kernel did you have to use the bamboo branch of xf86-input-wacom? And if you used a .fdi, which one?

    I used linuxwacom-0.8.5-10 with the 2.6.33-rc8 kernel. I just had to add some header files that were missing from the new kernel.

    Code:
    echo '#define CONFIG_MODULES 1' > /usr/src/linux/include/linux/autoconf.h

    echo '#define UTS_RELEASE "2.6.33-rc8"' > /usr/src/linux/include/linux/utsrelease.h
    I am just using the standard xf86-input-wacom-0.10.4 package from portage, no other fdi it just works

    Hi shazeal,

    Good, thanks for the information!

    Could you do me a favor and attach the wacom.fdi in the standard xf86-input-wacom-0.10.4 package from portage to your next post?

    Re: Wacom Bamboo Pen and Touch Series Development

    Hi mmiicc
    Hi Favux
    I'm really new to tablets, so excuse my ignorance.

    Which wacom.fdi are you using?
    I don't actually know what it is and what it does. Anyway after command:
    Code:
    locate wacom.fdi
    I have following results:
    Code:
    michal@michal-desktop:~$ locate wacom.fdi
    /home/michal/linuxwacom-0.8.5-10/src/util/10-linuxwacom.fdi
    /home/michal/linuxwacom-0.8.5-9-prepatch/src/util/10-linuxwacom.fdi
    /usr/share/hal/fdi/policy/20thirdparty/10-linuxwacom.fdi
    I suppose it is the last one which I use. Content of that file attached.

    Touch is working too? Is it better than before?
    I can't compare as I didn't use touch to much. It now works somehow. I can move pointer, and I discovered that when I tap with my finger on the touchpad whilst I have my other finger already on it, the right click menu appears. Also I've noticed pinch to zoom works with some applications.
    I don't know any more "touch gestures" I can try. It'd be useful to put some info about it in the first post.

    How about the pad?
    Sorry, but I don't understand this question. Do you mean how the buttons work?

    Does wacomcpl show your devices in the list? What is it calling them?
    It shows:
    Code:
    Wacom_BambooFun_2FG_6x8_Pen4_eraser
    Wacom_BambooFun_2FG_6x8_Pen4
    Wacom_BambooFun_2FG_6x85_Pen4_pad
    Wacom_BambooFun_2FG_6x85_Pen4_touch
    Did the name change after replugging wreck the xsetwacom command
    Yes I have to set everything again after replugging.
