9.10 Intel GMA 4500M Resolution and Quality

Ubuntu 9.10 Intel GMA 4500M Screen Resolution and quality problem.(on Fujitsu Siemens Esprimo Mobile v5535)

I am new and have read many posts on this and have tried to make and install a xorg.conf file all to no avail. I cannot get a resolution above 800 x 600 and the screen quality is awful. (vesa?)

Can anyone help? I will need exact instructions if I may be so bold as although I can follow them I am not really fully literate.

    Thank you in advance.

Re: 9.10 Intel GMA 4500M Resolution and Quality

I've got the same problem. I got a Toshiba Satellite with Intel GMA 4500M videocard. When I try to watch a dvd through VLC (or any other media player), I get crappy quality. Especially through dark colors, i can see al the squares and stuff.
I don't want to go back to windows, so can anybody help?
When i try to search drivers through system -> adminstration -> hardware drivers, ubuntu says there are 'no proprietary drivers in use on this system'.
I've tried finding a driver, but can't find any.

Is there anybody who can help? I'm new to Ubuntu, so I don't really know where else to ask...

    Kind regards,
