Hello !

I had same problem with my webcam "0ac8:0302 Z-Star Microelectronics Corp. ZC0302 WebCam". I tried many things to solev, but no success. I think that something with new kernel 2.6.31
I made downgrade to 9.04 and everything is working pretty nice.
Solution: better wait version 9.10 stay more stable.

The resolution for this problem is to recompile gspca drivers from source with some modifications of vc032x source.

Before begin, disconnect camera from your PC and do:
$ modprobe -r gspca_vc032x

First, you will need to get source and some required packages:

$ sudo aptitude install mercurial build-essential linux-headers libncurses5-dev
$ hg clone http://linuxtv.org/hg/~jfrancois/gspca/
$ cd gspca
$ sudo make menuconfig

Disable DVB subsystem in menuconfig because you need full configured kernel source to compile DVB (I think, you have only kernel headers installed).

Now, you will need to edit source file at ~/gspca/linux/drivers/media/video/gspca/vc032x.c:

If you got upside down image in 640x480 resolution (you probably got it), just use this temporary workaround that Jean-Francois Moine, the gspca developer, sent to me:

...change the line 929:

to
{0x08, 0x00, 0x27, 0xbb}, {0x20, 0x01, 0x00, 0xbb},

I hope this is temporary workaround, we're trying to fix it permanently. Confirmed to work with changeset #13845:941722c6ae31 ('tip' at the moment of posting).

Detection, flip and freezes fixed in latest version (rev c05cc762eff2 in hg) of gspca source code. Now it doesn't require any changes, just clone repository, recompile from source and everything will be ok.

### unplug the camera here
