Somehow this is the only thing that it doesn't work after updating to 9.10. I can't find how to reconfigure that thing...
You need to have desktop effects enabled to do that. Check under System - Preferences - Appearance - Visual Effects.
If they're enabled, then install the compizconfig-settings-manager package and then have a look under the compiz settings to enable this option.
It's under the "Desktop-based Viewport Switching" tab in the Viewport Switcher plug-in.

The best way to do it, re: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=357192 is to simply get the compiz settings manager and change the settings that way
I used configuration editor and I configured it again. There was a previous post about that problem

Go to System->Preferences->CompizConfig Settings Manager. Click on Viewport Switcher then click on the Desktop-based Viewport Switching. Set Move Next to Button5 and Move Previous to Button4. That's how I fixed mine.
Still works in Lucid.
