Wireless connection speed only 1 mb/s with 9.10

A question from a complete newbie.

I have a USB wireless adapter that worked fine with 9.04. I upgraded to 9.10, and while the wireless connection is working, the registered speed is only 1 mb/s. Another interesting note is the signal strength seems to be about only at about 50% most of the time as well. With 9.04 the signal strength was at near 100% as my machine is close to the wireless router.

I appreciate any help that you could provide.

When you say registered speed you mean the speed that you can get or the speed that is written if you click connection info? also can you give the output of
    Code:
    lsusb
(write this in terminal and post here the result)

Re: Wireless connection speed only 1 mb/s with 9.10

i suppose you need to have 54mb/s as bit rate.
    so try this out.
    -disconnect from the network
    -open a terminal and type
    Code:
    sudo iwconfig wlan0 rate 54M
    -close terminal and reconnect.

Try this and please let us know the results so finally fix it
