maybe this will help. I still have come nowhere near to solving this. currently there is no headphone option in the gnome volume control...

Check the settings and maybe there is one that you need to enable to 'increase' the number of settings in the equalizer? The default is probably one in which there's only the basics.
If your sound is working (without any distortion or crackling or any problems) then that means that the driver is working correctly.
