    Re: DVD drive not working

    I'm still a noob, of course, but it's like having a crazy puzzle that will have a huge payoff when it's complete. I am totally into this... I just can't work with WINE unless I get the drive running.

    It automatically mounts my Flash drive when I plug it in... I just can't mount that dvd drive. Bummer. But still cool. I will install the OS again.. it is a relatively fast install

    Re: DVD drive not working

    Problem solved! I just installed 9.10 beta and it runs perfectly, including it recognizes and runs the dvd drive.

    Re: DVD drive not working

    I pulled the drive, made some adjustments.... then plugged a differnet drive in and it worked?

    Strange. Very strange.

    But I will take it! Thanks for the advice gang.

    Re: DVD drive not working

    Hello,

    I am a rank beginner at Ubuntu. I have an old Dell Precision 380 desktop. It came with just a CD rom drive. I have added a Samsung DVD RW drive, but on startup my system does not acknowledge it. I ran the same command as the original poster on this thread and these are the results:

    laureen@laureen-desktop:~$ cat /etc/fstab
    # /etc/fstab: static file system information.
    #
    # Use 'blkid -o value -s UUID' to print the universally unique identifier
    # for a device; this may be used with UUID= as a more robust way to name
    # devices that works even if disks are added and removed. See fstab(5).
    #
    # <file system> <mount point> <type> <options> <dump> <pass>
    proc /proc proc defaults 0 0
    # / was on /dev/sda1 during installation
    UUID=8cbe1581-ad64-4294-a198-bb3c0be6b93d / ext4 errors=remount-ro 0 1
    # swap was on /dev/sda5 during installation
    UUID=f08653b3-6a47-4689-a835-575a6c7783a4 none swap sw 0 0
    /dev/scd0 /media/cdrom0 udf,iso9660 user,noauto,exec,utf8 0 0
    /dev/fd0 /media/floppy0 auto rw,user,noauto,exec,utf8 0 0
    laureen@laureen-desktop:~$ ls /media
    cdrom cdrom0 floppy floppy0
    laureen@laureen-desktop:~$

    so the system sees my cdrom and floppy drives. How do I get it to recognize the new dvd drive?

    Thanks for any advice.

    Insert a disk into the drive then use this command:

    Code:
    sudo mount
    it will show all of mounted partitions,CD/DVD,USB etc. data devices...
