Return to previous tab in gedit?

    Hi everyone,

In gedit, which is the shortcut keyboard to return to the previous tab? In other tabbed applications it is usually 'Ctrl+tab' but in gedit it's not.

Thanks for reading my question. Any answer would be very appreciated.

    Regards,

    Iniesta.

Wish I could prove I love you, but does that mean I have to walk on water?
When we are older you'll understand it's enough when I say so, and maybe some things are that simple.

    Hi amingv,

Thank you for your answer. However that page does not have the info I need. Perhaps I did not describe my question clearly enough. The thing I need is, well, for example, suppose I currently open 10 documents in Gedit, and I am working with 2 of them: the 3rd and the 7th. So I need to switch back and forth between these 2 documents. With what Gedit originally supports I feel it is a little bit inconvenient to do the job. Is there any kind of patch or plugin which can add a shortcut keyboard implementing this feature to Gedit?

    Regards,

    Iniesta.

From the page amingv gave you:

Alt + 3 -> Puts you on the third tab.
Alt + 7 -> Puts you on the seventh tab.

If that's inconvenient I guess you'll just have to wait for the GNOME release that supports direct neural connect

3 and 7 are just example numbers to express my idea more clearly. In reality no one should be patient enough to count the number of the previous tab just to return to it. They will use the mouse instead.

Have you ever used the Firefox plugin Tab Mix Plus? It is a good example of what Ctrl+tab should do.

Ah, now I get you. I've seen Tab Mix Plus in use but don't use it myself, preferring to keep the number of tab-views small and instantiating multiple windows / multiple workspaces instead.

On the GEdit's plugins page there's a couple of "tab enhancers" available, but none appear to give anything close to FF's TMP capabilities. There is one (TabSwitch) that enables Ctrl+Tab as the switcher, but that's all it does.

Yup, I've already tried the plugin TabSwitch but it did not provide the feature I'm talking about. Its 'Ctrl+tab' combination just lets you cycle through the tabs.

Anyways, thank you for your answer.

    Hi,

I'm sorry because the title of this thread is confusing. I just want the 'Ctrl+Tab' combination to navigate gedit to the most recently used tab. Is this possible?

    Thanks!
