Red face Remove duplicates in Banshee?

    Hi, SPARTAN-118, Matt here.

I was wondering if there is a way to automatically remove duplicates of songs/files from Banshee Media Player.

I recently imported all my music files from Windows into the Banshee library, but I forgot about the iTunes folder. So now I have duplicates of pretty much every song, leaving a total of 1234 items.
    I'm not kidding.

Here's a screenshot if you don't believe me:

So, is there a plugin or something I can add, to remove all of these duplicates? Or do I have to remove, every, single, one.

    Thanks,
    SPARTAN-118

    bump

My issue is a symlink. If I could just exclude a folder from my banshee directory, that would be great. I use the symlink title in an SmartPlaylist.

The thought just occurred to me that if the metadata is being written to files changing the name of the directory shouldn't be a problem. With that in mind, is previous metadata written to the file or do I need to have written the metadata after checking that box?

The last time I had this issue, I moved all of my music into a folder (Archive) and re-imported it using Musicbrains Picard. This can be set to move and rename files as required, and organises it nicely into folders.

    Re: Remove duplicates in Banshee?

The thing I realized was that I had already rated everything in each folder and played everything in each folder, so those two auto-playlists weren't going to be affected. I also realized that all I needed to do was change the samba share name to the new folder and everything would be fine. I did have to manually go in and delete the old share, I think, but that was pretty easy. I felt pretty stupid for not having thought of all of that before, but oh well, it's fixed now and it's not like it was the most pressing issue in the world!

dupguru music edition is wicked too - you can compare folders and contents for duplicates...
