Battery Not Charging - Hardware or Software Issue?

During this past week, I've noticed that the battery on my laptop is not taking a charge while running on AC. This was not a gradual problem, it just occurred one day (I believe it was Wednesday when I first noticed). I can't seem to locate any system settings to see if something needs to be tweaked. What's worse, I can't figure out if it is a software issue or a hardware issue. Does anyone out there have any suggestions?

I am not completey sure, but charging a laptop doesn't seem to be able to be related to any software issue. The only thing that COULD happen is that your laptop actually gets charged, but the software doesn't register it. If however your battery simply won't charge, the only explanation for me would be a hardware problem.

I switched out the OEM AC adapter with a Targus AC adapter (which has plugs for most major brands of laptops) that I bought once while on the road, because I forgot the other adapter at home. Anyhow, the battery is charging again. I guess it's safe to say the problem was with the OEM unit.
