    Im old and trying UBUNTU

    Hello there

I am creeping up on the ripe old age of 50 and want to learn about ubuntu. I have spent the past couple of weeks grabbing old hard ware, turning my daughters bedroom in to my computer room, and reading .... but I admit I am still very very lost.

Do you have some kind of mentor program for old guys???

    thanks

    Jim

Lew is right, 50 is not old, i'm 60, thats old and i know more about computers than my 30 year old son, not bad for a plasterer eh? I can even build computers it so easy you would not believe it. Your never too old to learn as long as your interested in the subject at hand.

One tip most people will tell you is, what ever you want google has it, type in what ever you want and its there.

And of course join a forum like this one.

50 is middle-aged if you are going to live to be 100. That gives you 50 years of Ubuntu.

So, I would say that you are young in your journey into linux and ubuntu goodness.

Now, imagine how much more difficult it would be to learn linux at 90? So, yes, I would say 90 is old.

Dude if you're old I'm dead!

You'll be fine. Just remember there is always an answer and always a work around. People will help you, sure there are some Linux punks along the way but just ignore them.

Rock on with your Ubuntu bad self.

Re: Im old and trying UBUNTU

    Hi,

I installed Ubuntu earlier this year and made good progress getting to understand it and setting up my desktop and programs to my personal taste.

I messed everything up quite frequently but after each major improvement I used to clone my main Ubuntu partition to an external hard drive.

So, when desperate I would seek advice here in this forum but mostly, when merely frustrated, I would just clone everything back and rejoin the trail.

I agree with the wisdom expressed above - 50 is almost kids' stuff, especially when youŕe only creeping towards it.

My regards, enjoy the recommended free book, as I did, and enjoy Ubuntu.
