There's a lot of this pringing up round here recently.

You can tell your "freind" these tips:
1. Get syndicated, the planet is the best place (then again you need to be a member)
2. SEO
3. Write articles that people want to read - thought provoking is best, plain outrageous works too,
4. Be careful naming sites with the word "Ubuntu", it often falls foul of Canonical's trademark policy.
5. Once the content is there, people will start linking and then you can get on blogrolls.
