Fuzzy sound when recording

If I try and record sound from my onboard laptop speaker then the only sound that occurs is a fuzzy one.

Any help? Sorry for the distinct lack of information, I don't know what else to put really.

I'm getting the same problem. I'm trying to use Rosetta Stone on this computer but I can't get the speech to work. the microphone works and it records but when it records there's a loud fuzzy noise like when you get static on the TV. But in the background I can still hear what I said very faintly.
