Hello, let me just say first of all I'm a linux newbie, and trying to permanently move to ubuntu from Windows. That said, if you have any suggestions, please I'd appreciate it if you'd include any command verbatum that I should try in the terminal, because I am still very much learning how to use it.
This is in Jaunty 9.04-
As the title says, I cannot reactivate my internet when coming out of a suspend the only fix is to reboot.
I've tried disabling re-enabling the network manager, I've tried "up" "down" commands in the terminal, as some kind people in the #ubuntu channel on irc have suggested,
I've also tried restarting from the terminal with commands suggested to me in #ubuntu.
Nothing works. The NM tries to reconnect, but to no avail. I finally tried installing wicd manager, same problem, it's as if it cannot find the NW card.
When coming out of suspend the green light in the back of the card, where the cable is plugged in, is on, but the orange light is not.
I've added a bug at: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/425663 I will maybe put a link there to this page, because I did not include a lot of info in that bug post.
some more info:
lspci gives the following for the Network card, although it is a built in NW card on an Abit mobo:
here are my Ifconfig before and after a suspend:Code:00:0e.0 Ethernet controller: Sundance Technology Inc / IC Plus Corp IP1000 Famil y Gigabit Ethernet (rev 41) Subsystem: ABIT Computer Corp. Device 1416 Flags: bus master, 66MHz, medium devsel, latency 32, IRQ 22 I/O ports at ec00 [size=256] Memory at dfffe000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=256] [virtual] Expansion ROM at 80000000 [disabled] [size=64K] Capabilities: <access denied> Kernel driver in use: Sundance Technology IPG Triple-Speed Ethernet Kernel modules: ipg
This is what sudo gedit /etc/network/interfaces shows. I had added the auto eth0 in an attempt to make it work but it's the same with or without that line... in all honesty I have no idea how or if I should edit this file. I tried going through the man, but at this stage it is over my head.Code:david@david-desktop:~$ ifconfig eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:50:8d:d3:f7:c1 inet addr:192.168.1.104 Bcast:192.168.1.255 Mask:255.255.255.0 inet6 addr: fe80::250:8dff:fed3:f7c1/64 Scope:Link UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:78590 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:70923 errors:1 dropped:0 overruns:1 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes:77767043 (77.7 MB) TX bytes:13775852 (13.7 MB) Interrupt:22 lo Link encap:Local Loopback inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0 inet6 addr: ::1/128 Scope:Host UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:16436 Metric:1 RX packets:265 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:265 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:0 RX bytes:31142 (31.1 KB) TX bytes:31142 (31.1 KB) david@david-desktop:~$ ifconfig eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:50:8d:d3:f7:c1 inet6 addr: fe80::250:8dff:fed3:f7c1/64 Scope:Link UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:139031 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:105479 errors:1 dropped:0 overruns:1 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes:162133023 (162.1 MB) TX bytes:17191508 (17.1 MB) Interrupt:22 lo Link encap:Local Loopback inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0 inet6 addr: ::1/128 Scope:Host UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:16436 Metric:1 RX packets:311 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:311 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:0 RX bytes:36344 (36.3 KB) TX bytes:36344 (36.3 KB) david@david-desktop:~$
Thank you very much for your time. I know that anyone that responds here or in IRC is taking time out of their life to do so. I'm very surprised at how nice and willing to help this community is, and I just want to say that I really appreciate it.Code:auto eth0 auto lo iface lo inet loopback
