    [Solved]network applet not disconnecting

Hello - I've posted a similar thread in "General help", but since there's been no response.....

When I right-click the panel's network applet, and deselect "Enable Networking", the applet indicates the network status as disconnected, but the network is in fact still connected. ie. the web-browser still accesses sites.
Is the applet not supposed to shutdown the network connection? Is the applet not linked to hal properly or something?

the computer is a thinkpad, and as such it has a FN+F5 combination to turn off wireless networking which works ok, but the wired network connection is exhibiting this behaviour of not actually disconnecting.

Might this be a Thinkpad specific issue?

    Thanks
