Ubuntu is pretty fast out of the box. It's actually kinda funny; I often find myself worrisome about having too many applications on at once.

But, I'm curious: Are there any simple tweaks that could vastly improve the speed and overall experience of Ubuntu? I'm pretty new to things, (Which is why I registered here.) so, something preferably easy for a noob such as myself would be nice.

(I already know about the wonders of turning off services and startup items from experience with Windows. Personally, I never really saw a vast improvement due to that. But that's another thread. . .)
