Can't install cursors theme

I've downloaded cursors without problems before, but now Gcursor/cursor selector isn't working. None of the buttons do anything at all. I've even tried installing it manually by extracting it, then moving it to /usr/share/icons and restarting X, but that didn't work either... I still can't see my theme under system-prefs-appearance-customize-pointers.

Is there another way to install cursors? If not, know why it isn't working?

Just an update to say that a restart did not fix it... I tried several other ways of extracting the files to ./icons, but still nothing... Does anyone have any ideas?
