non-VNC remote desktop method?

I would like to access my home desktop running 8.04 LTS from my office and be able to access Evolution mail, and various user folders/documents. Unfortunately, being that I am on a work terminal running windows XP, I am stuck dealing with some restrictions..namely, I cannot add ANY software to the computer, and my only method of accessing the internet and anything outside of our intranet is via windows explorer.

Based upon this, I cannot simply enable VNC on my home desktop and install something on the XP machine to connect. Ideas?
