    Gateway LT3103u issues.

    Hi everyone.

Well I just bought the new Gateway LT3103u netbook (Athlon64 1.2ghz, Ati x1270) and, for the most part, installing the 9.10 netbook remix has been without a hitch.

A few issues though: first off, the wifi seems to randomly drop connection (sometimes just a minute or so after logging on) and won't reconnect until I restart the computer. Is there any way to fix this?

Secondly, it doesn't seem to recognize the graphics card. It runs at full resolution, but the Ati card does not seem to be used and even moving the mouse can be laggy sometimes. Is there a special way to install the driver? I tried downloading the one from amds website and it didnt work.

    Thanks.

As far as the wifi goes, have you tried this thread?

Sadly, I have no idea about the graphics, though I am definitely interested in seeing how this gets resolved.

I recently purchased the same netbook and am trying to decide between the desktop edition or netbook remix of Ubuntu. I thought you could only run the netbook remix if you have an Intel Atom. I suppose I'm mistaken?

Nope, Netbook remix works on any cpu. I do think it is optimized for the atom though.

And with the 9.10 the drivers are already installed... although they might be different drivers.

Has anyone tried the official release since it has come out? I have been playing with 9.10 32bit desktop on this version of the netbook using the alpha 6 release and then updating after installing. This was the only way I could get ubuntu installed , anything <9.04 wouldnt even boot due to bios bug. There were some bugs but I have been hoping that the official release will fix these. I will be trying the official release tonight and see what happens.

So far the bugs that I get are the normal io-apic errors on boot, screen booting with brightness all the way down for a few moments, wifi droping on occasion, and ati graphics issues. The graphics like most have reported are running at full resolution but as soon as I make a call for some 3d graphics it either runs really slow and glitchy (neverball and gens emulator). Compiz works but doesnt like the extra effects like fire and snow. Snow causes all sorts of glitches on the screen. I think the computer may have even froze from this with a black screen and gibberish/artifacts at the bottom of the screen.

So far the updates have seemed to help/change the bootup to xsplash, and fixed the touchpad clicking issues I was having (double tap didnt work), but wifi still seems to be a bit lacking and graphics are still buggy.. mainly my only complaint seems to be the graphics now.... looking forward to trying the official version.

Has anyone had any luck or tips/ideas on the new xorg and the ati chipset? still trying to learn how to tweak the new xorg config since that has changed since jaunty 9.04.

Tried the official 9.10 release and everything seems fine other than the graphics side of things. If all your doing is enabeling compiz it works like a champ ... just things like neverball, celestia and and 3d/openGL related apps seem to be having some issues. Looking into trying different drivers/ and or settings and keeping an ear out for suggestions.
