    Outgoing Port Blocking Circumvention

Here is my plight. At my apartment, I get free wireless internet, which is great. However, you can only use it to do HTTP or FTP; all other outgoing ports are blocked, which isn't great. What I am trying to dream up is a way of getting full access to all of my ports so that I can do things like ssh from home.

I have a hosted Ubuntu server located elsewhere that I could connect to. Is there any way that I could use VPN or some other protocol to get around my ports being blocked? How would I go about doing that? If there is a relatively low-configuration method, I would really appreciate it, simply because I don't want to mess around TOO much with my server, but it's not a huge deal. Thanks so much for your help.

Sorry to bump this, but I am pretty sure that this got buried... any input here? There might not be an answer to this one, but I figured I may as well try. Thanks in advance!
