    Re: Asus T91 linux installation

    Got my T91 this week; will be looking to install Crunchbang Linux on it this weekend, hopefully tomorrow. Going to try CrunchEEE/Crunchbang Lite. The Live boot from usb worked fine, with only one odd problem (it froze as if it was paused or you had closed the lid, only to be resumed by pressing the power button, but this didnt seem to cause any ill effects).

    As with everyone else, the wireless didn't work out of the box and the video drivers need sorting, as well as a decent touch calibration and right click simulator. Definitely need a good right click simulator as CrunchBang uses OpenBox.

    Sounds like you've all done fantastic work fixing the issues so far, I'll let you know how my installation goes

    Thanks
    Nash

    Hi!
    The 1st command you give is working well but unfortunately the scripts don't work on my T91: no effect at all.
    How should I run brightness.sh on command line to test it? What are the arguments to pass to the script?
    TIA.

    Code:
    sudo apt-get install libnotify-bin
    @xyzo
    If you just want to test if the script is triggered, install the libnotify-bin and just add a command to send a notification message to your screen (example above)

    I assume there's something wrong in your /etc/acpi/events folder, check the event handler files there. I once had the problem that I named one of the handlers brightness.sh, while in that folder it should be only brightness (no ending). Also you should check if there is any other brightness handler in that folder that may be conflicting.

    Last but not least, in the /etc/acpi folder check if your script brightness.sh is executable (sudo chmod +x /etc/acpi/brightness.sh)

    There are two versions of that script in this thread, if the one you have doesn't work, try the other (dont forget to adjust /etc/acpi/events/brightness, they are not the same).

    To increase the brightness:
    Code:
    sudo brightness.sh hotkey ATKD 0000002f
    To decrease the brightness:
    Code:
    sudo brightness.sh hotkey ATKD 00000020

    Re: Asus T91 linux installation

    My T91 is back, with a brand new Windows...

    I just finished the install.
    Only issue : I can't get compiz to work.
    Software rasterizer detected. Falling back to metacity
    I tried everything in this topic, and a lot of others... No luck.
    Any clue ?

    Edit : My bad !! some packages were missing... Now, I have to reconfigure easystroke, and install the acpi tunning.

    Re: Asus T91 linux installation

    Another problem...
    I have a very very poor signal for my home wifi spot.
    The same signal is "max", with a eeepc 701 using easy peasy (based upon intrepid)

    I tried to boot with #14 and #15 kernels. Same issue.

    Any ideas ?

    @Mizukusai

    Congratulations to getting your netbook back and working. I'm not sure about you wifi issue, at home I have my wifi right behind me and sometimes it has a reception of 4/5, sometimes only 1/5. Then I still have the occasional dropout, I just switch off and on again using the fn keys. You may have some other problem, but in general the wifi drivers are not yet optimal.

    @maryjohn
    It does have some problems after installation, most of them you can solve by going trough this thread from start to finish. If that doesn't solve it, you'll have to explain what your problems are.

    Not ok.
    I can't load this drivers. My card is not working.
    I currently using #14 kernel.

    I'll try to upgrade to Karmic.

    Ubuntu Moblin Remix
    Let's try this !

    ALERT !!
    * This is made for the Dell Mini 10
    * This will erase all your SSD without any warnings !

    But, it works for th T91 as far as I know.
    Wifi seems ok (no AP seen for now)
    We I'll be able to connect it, I'll add ubuntu-mobile repository and activate psb drivers.

    Moblin seems to be a really nice interface.

    This ubuntu is based upon Jaunty, but with a 2.6.31 kernel, and specific repositories.
