I for one hope not.
isnt this post more suitable for Programming and Development? Forums' admins?
Philosophy doesn't get the work done...the success of Linux Community resides on its ability to listen to the people's demands and transform them into software faster/better than the alternatives

remember kiddies: sudo rm -rf= BAD!, if someone tells you to do this, please ignore them unless YOU WANT YOUR SYSTEM WIPED
Yes, its on the To-Do List of Ubuntu 99-04 LTS,
Filesystem Hierarchy replaced by C: , D: , E: ...
and when you have a 12-in-1 Card Reader, you got all letters on your file browser
In case devs look through these threads for new ideas I will mention too that I hope this doesn't happen.
They generally don't look through these threads.
And this idea isn't new:
Idea #310: Filesystem hierarchy simplification.
Do you want the filesystem hierarchy to change?

I really liked GoboLinux's implementation of the file system. Was it perfect? No, of course not.
BUT, the fact is that many linux distros still adhere to the layouts of old UNIX systems.
I'd totally use Gobo again, but they didn't have KDE4 last time I checked...
To me, the kind of file system as in GoboLinux makes much more sense, it looks a lot more natural.
cześć, lipin.
You frightened some people with your question, it shook their bases.
That may be reserved for the future...imagine no more debs, rpms etc., install and remove any software neatly, Firefox 1, 2 and 3 to choose etc.
