No, seriously...Windows 7 is actually not that bad (I still prefer Linux though).
Vista however, that is another matter.

my Ubuntu machine's hard drive failed, mom won't let me install linux on this one, so I'm stuck with ******* until I get the money for a new HDD

Just dual boot, if you got an external HDD or a USB stick you won't need more then 10GB for Ubuntu.

Don't get me wrong - I'm not against anyone who uses Windows ( just don't like the attitude from Microsoft ). Windows 7 looks pretty nice, however, I'll not even try to install it ( not worth my time and effort, not to mention, license key which is valid only for 1 year ).
