Software Freedom Day 2009 @ Philadelphia Area Computer Society

    Hi all,

Jim Fisher (The Awesome!) received confirmation that we'll be the stars of this upcoming Software Freedom Day at the Philadelphia Area Computer Society on September 19th.

So far we have a presenter lined up who will give a talk about MythTV. We're also looking to duplicate what we've done in the past with tables doing demos and such, but we need more ideas! What will dazzle these primarily Windows and Mac users?

We've created a wiki page for the event where you can add ideas (or just reply to this forum thread):

I will bring a couple of my "re-purposed" older laptops and desktops, showing that new life can spring from seemingly dead hardware.

And since my iBook is going back to OS X, I can use that to demonstrate Mac FOSS.

The more netbooks, and netbook os' the merrier - all you netbook people, bring your favorite, or your favorite at the moment os, and we can have a netbook battle royal!

    More brainstorming.

Since it is Software Freedom Day to celebrate FOSS how about:

Free Software Foundation info by a member (Harding)

How the whole FOSS thing works, like:

Maintaining a Package (by a package maintainer) hint: pleia2

Developing a Package (by a developer) hint: Lamalex

Bugs and Bug Reporting and all that go along with it. hint: Rocket

Anyone know anyone from Freenode who might be interested in representing?

Cool, Jim let me know on IRC about this. I expect I should be able to attend, unless something else comes up between now and Sept 19. I can discuss any or all of the following topics:
    - Forums & user support
    - Launchpad & bugs
    - Documentation (wiki and system docs)

Please CC me on any emails related to this, I'm not subscribed to the PA mailing lists.

Re: Software Freedom Day 2009 @ Philadelphia Area Computer Society

Reminder, this Saturday is PA Ubuntu Local Community Team Software
Freedom Day event at the Philadelphia Area Computer Society.

    http://pacsnet.org/

This year's event has taken on an even greater meaning to many people
in this area, as we have decided to dedicate this event to memorialise
the life of Matthew Rosewarne (mukidohime on irc).

    Lyz's blog entry:

    http://princessleia.com/journal/?p=1979

Matthew was a demonstrator at our Software Freedom Day event at PACS in 2007.

The people at PACS have given us the MAIN presentation room after the
Dave's presentation so that we can advocate and show off our stuff.
We will also take this time to sign up attendees for the October 3rd
    Myth Installfest.

Please come out and support this event!
