Yeah I downloaded the package from there official site, so can anyone give me a little insight on how to compile it or just build things in general?

You can search for documentation at help.ubuntu.com
The last.fm client is in the repos, thus you can easily install it using Add/Remove (i.e. Applications → Add/Remove).
Hope that helps.
The version of Amarok that's in the jaunty-backports repository has good Last.FM support, too.
